Uitzicht Neighbourhood Watch Christmas Fundraiser

The Uitzicht Neighbourhood Watch Christmas Fundraiser took place at the Lat Wai Farm in Joostenberg Vlakte on Saturday, 11 November 2017 and boy what an evening it was!

To be honest, we were extremely worried that at one point, we even considered cancelling the event as ticket sales were very slow and the concern of financial loss was a big red flag in front of a raging bull in Pamplona! But, in true Cape Town fashion, people left things to the last minute and then came out in their droves to purchase tickets and support a good cause. So much so that we were even receiving forms and proof of payments shortly before the event started at 16h30 in the afternoon.

Chairman Brendon Atwell thanking Sanell Tennant for putting on a brilliant show.

It was a fantastic effort to put together such a wonderful event in such a short time and our secretary, Sanell Tennant, deserves all the praise in pulling together the sponsors, vendors, volunteers and venue which produced a wonderful event.

The main reason for the fundraiser was to raise funds for our camera initiative to help us purchase a server to host our cameras but the day turned out to be even more important from a social responsibility perspective in that we invited kids from the Durbanville Children’s Home to enjoy the time with us. Resident’s who were not able to attend the event, bought tickets anyway and sponsored them back to us, which allowed us to invite these kids.

And boy did they have fun! They enjoyed the jumping castles, food, cooldrinks, the fire engines from the Kraaifontein Fire Department and of course, Father Christmas!

All the kids were treated to a wonderful magic show from magician, Regardt Laubscher and then everyone enjoyed the sounds of former Idols SA finalist, Mark Haze. Once the sun started to set, Santa Clause’s fairy appeared to signal the magical time.

Father Christmas arriving to some excited children

We gathered the children together and the fairy used her magic wand to turn on the fairy lights. The children called for Father Christmas who then arrived on the back of the Lat Wai Farm tractor – this was because his reindeer were being prepped for the long night ahead next month!

Santa spread his joy and handed out his gifts to the kids, who were overjoyed at being treated before the big day actually arrived.

A big thanks has to go out to our sponsors below as well as the volunteers who assisted on the day. To those who helped setup the venue, Joao de Faria and Mike Heil for carting the hay bales back and forth, the volunteers who assisted with parking cars and all who were involved – A BIG THANK YOU!

Even though it is satisfying to see an event such as this turn into a success, it is even more gratifying to see those less fortunate than you have such a wonderful time. To see their gratitude when they are fed with treats and to see the smiles on their faces was worth so much more!

In the end, the UNHW was able to raise around R14 000 towards the purchase of the server – and for this we say to all the people who bought tickets and sponsored the event, thank you – without you we could not have done it!

We would like to thank all the companies that contributed to making this event possible. We say thanks!
